About this part

Full face masks cover both the nose and mouth, so ResMed builds an anti-asphyxia valve (AAV) into the elbow assembly as a safety measure. During normal therapy, pressurized air holds the valve closed so all your air comes from the machine. But if the airflow stops — the machine is switched off, unplugged, or fails — the valve opens automatically, letting you breathe fresh room air rather than rebreathing the carbon dioxide trapped inside a full face mask.

The membrane (a small silicone-elastomer diaphragm) is the moving part that makes this work. It seats inside the valve/elbow assembly. Because it's a safety component, ResMed recommends replacing it promptly if it's torn, warped, stiff, sticky, or lost — a damaged or missing membrane means the valve may not seal during therapy (causing leaks) or may not open correctly if airflow stops.

Compatibility: it fits the Ultra Mirage Full Face, Ultra Mirage II, and Mirage Series 2 full face masks. It installs into the existing valve/elbow assembly. If the whole valve/elbow assembly is cracked or broken (not just the membrane), that's a separate, complete assembly part.
