The AirCurve 10 ST-A builds on bilevel ST therapy — two pressures (IPAP/EPAP) plus a timed backup rate — and adds ResMed's iVAPS mode. The "A" stands for the volume-assured capability: rather than delivering fixed pressure support, iVAPS targets a set alveolar ventilation and automatically adjusts the pressure support, breath by breath, to maintain it as the patient's needs change through the night. It also learns the patient's breathing to set an intelligent backup rate.
This makes it suited to non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for people with significant hypoventilation — for example advanced neuromuscular disease, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, or COPD-related hypoventilation — where maintaining adequate ventilation, not just splinting the airway, is the goal. It's a substantially more capable and more complex device than CPAP or a standard bilevel, and is entirely clinician-configured for a confirmed diagnosis.
