In manual mode, an operator controls the switch between the inhale (insufflation) and exhale (exsufflation) phases in time with the patient. Doing that by hand ties up a hand that's often needed elsewhere — holding the mask to the face, steadying the patient, or supporting the abdomen. The foot pedal moves that control to the foot, so the caregiver or clinician keeps both hands free where they're needed. It plugs into the device and is used according to the CoughAssist T70 instructions.
